Outdoor school events can be a good idea if you are planning a function that involves the whole school (or a large majority of it).
I have done many of these events for primary schools. Events such as End-Of-Year Concerts, Carols Nights, Welcome Picnics, Twilight Fetes, Talent Shows and even School Reunions, these are all events that you could utilise an outdoor hire specialist such as Top-Notch Entertainment Pty Ltd.
If you're planning an outdoor event, here are some things to consider:
Allow 3-5 hours for an outdoor event. Anything shorter may seem too rushed, and anything longer may feel dragged out for families with younger children.
Announcements should be short, and make sure the speakers can be seen by all the guests.
You should encourage many families to bring their own chairs, especially those who are expecting grandparents who may have also been invited.
Considered the weather? If the forecast (or season) is unpleasant hire a marquee.
Try to have a stage or elevated platform where your entertainment and announcers can be seen.
